Norman Jay MBE - Good Times

Norman's passion for black music was inspired by his father's collection of 60s R&B.

Get your space early this year as there wont be much room on the dance floor after Norman’s inspirational sunset party selection back in May 2009. The beaches of Antalya had never sounded so good, and we’re ready to go again!

Norman's incredible passion for black music was inspired by his father's collection of 60s R&B and soul then emerging from America. By the late 70's Norman had become an avid follower of contemporary Afro-American music styles including soul, funk and jazz fusion - collecting classic urban record labels like MOTOWN, ATLANTIC and STAX, then graduating to seminal NY labels like PRELUDE and SALSOUL.

In the UK, Norman has inspired music lovers with his own brand of soul, funk, gospel and disco since he embarked on his now legendary DJing career in the early 80s. His club nights at London's Bass Clef were the first exposure many UK clubbers had to "Rare Groove" a term coined by Norman himself. He was integral in the birth of Kiss FM, and in the creation of Talking Loud records with his friend Gilles Peterson, signing up acts such as The Young Disciples, Omar and Incognito. Norman's Good Times sound system has been a main attraction at the Notting Hill Carnival for over 15 years, packing out the streets with music lovers from around the globe. His championing of black music has even earned him an MBE.
